Landscaping Machinery: Cover More Ground While Controlling Your Costs
Blogroll No Comments »For anyone thinking of starting a landscaping business, or looking to find cost-effective equipment solutions for an existing one, it can be a serious challenge to control the various costs for machinery required in this type of business.
An important decision for certain types of equipment will be whether to rent or purchase that piece of gear. For example, in some large-scale landscaping jobs you may be required to do substantial amounts of earthmoving in order to reshape the terrain to the specifications of the client or their landscape architect. This type of work can require the use of a bulldozer, a dumptruck, an excavator, or sometimes all three.
If you only find yourself working on these jobs occasionally, your best bet is to rent the necessary equipment. But if these projects are your bread and butter, it probably makes the most sense to invest in your own heavy equipment.
On the other hand, certain kinds of equipment are really an obvious choice for a landscaper to own outright. For example, a good commercial lawnmower will probably be essential to many jobs. Also keep in mind that certain types of machinery offer more versatility than others. Instead of buying a specialized lawnmower, for instance, you could invest in a multipurpose tractor that could tow a mowing attachment, operate a loader bucket, or till the soil for seeding. Having one machine handle multiple tasks in this manner can be a great cost-saving strategy.
